"La Femme...a study of the female form" is an ongoing online photography/painting exhibit examining how to study the female body as line, color, shadow, and form. The images you see include color film, black & white film, color slide film, digital images, images of my paintings and of those of other artists. I have also included caption notes to help other artists & photographers understand what techniques I used to create my images.

The Models: My model's age's shown here range from mid-20's to mid-60's. Thank you ladies!

This image is a 35mm Kodak color slide converted to a digital image using an Epson 3590 scanner. I adjusted the image's colors for an extreme contrast.

Here the same digital image has been reversed to a negative image using free IrfanView editing software.

This image is a 35mm b&w film negative scanned with the Epson 3590 scanner. The film was 1000 speed b&w and the lighting I used was one candle just outside the frame to the left.

Here the same image has been reversed to a positive from a negative using IrfanView.

This image was take with a Canon EOS digital camera. The backdrop is black velvet which is the best for absorbing light.

This image was created using the previous photo. I reversed the image to a color negative. This is a great way to create striking contrasts from existing images.

This image was taken with a Canon EOS Digital. If you will be taking back shots during a shoot, it's important to remind your models NOT to wear a bra that day or you will have bra strap lines showing in the images.

This image was taken with a FujiFilm FinePix 3800 digital camera.

Nude as Landscape. This image was scanned from a black & white film negative.

Although it appears as if the model and I are lying on a blue sheet, we are actually standing in front of a blue car cover that served as a backdrop. The waterproof texture provided the background with it's deep blue sheen.

Whether you're shooting close-ups from the front, side or back, a woman's neckline is gorgeous.

My painting, Willow at Memphis, incorporates the curves of a woman's back and neckline, as well as her hair blowing in the wind

This is my Tennessee Sunflowers for Diego Rivera painting inspired by Diego Rivera's paintings. The curves of the sunflower stalks are the same contour as a woman's back (as in the Rivera painting to the left).

Nude Sway
Using a Canon EOS digital camera, I offset the model to the right side of the frame to contrast the negative space to the left. This is a good technique to try during a shoot and avoid having every shot "perfectly centered"

This image reminds me of Marc Chagall's The Lovers. This is another 35mm color slide scanned on an Epson scanner

This is the same image reversed to greyscale.
